One of the reason for the high statistics in Nigeria is ultimately due to the fact that the prisons are being filled up faster that the dispensation of justice. Secondly, many inmates have either committed no crime at all or minor misdemeanour which ordinarily should be dealt with quickly once a lawyer is engaged. Invariably, some inmates spend more time in prison in excess of the maximum penalty stipulated for that crime.
Our mandate is to sieve out the most vulnerable - those arrested for minor misdemeanour and are awaiting trial- and find ways to secure their release and rehabilitation.
